My kids are all officially back in school this week, and as excited as I am this time of year can definitely create a big change in our financial budget. I am all about finding ways to save BIG through the school year, and staying in our budget while still giving the kids a lunch they can get excited about.
My goal is to find the easiest way for my boys to pack lunches, and the cheapest. I knew that means we would do most of our shopping for lunch items at Walmart, and we found some great finds the kids are excited about. Here are my top 3 tips for saving money on your kids lunches this school year.
1. Get reusable containers & bags.
Rather than going through a ton of plastic bags every month, we have stocked up at Walmart on reusable containers and bags that can be used daily.
These Glad Matchware containers are amazing. They are inexpensive, yet durable and perfect for sandwiches and snacks.
I always make sure my kids pack some form of fruit or vegetable every day, but keeping it from going bad can be a struggle. So, to save on food waste, I also picked up the Rubbermaid Produce Saver! I can’t believe how well it works and there were so many varieties at Walmart.
Lastly, my kids love these reusable snack and sandwich bags with fun characters on the front. They are high quality, and easy to wash.
2. Pick some fun items.
I let my kids pick out a new lunch bag and water bottle every year to use each day. This saves BIG. We don’t use paper bags, and we don’t buy juice boxes during the school year.
They can simply fill up their bottles with water, and use their special new lunch box daily.
3. Buy some easy snacks to pack.
My kids lunches usually consists of a sandwich, fruit and a few snacks. Walmart has great deals on pre-packaged snacks that are easy to grab in a hurry and add to their lunches.
Some favorites in our home are Goldfish and Applesauce, and these multi-packs make lunch easier for everyone.
We also let them pack a small dessert so it’s perfect how these cookies come with just a few inside. Oreo’s are a big favorite!
These 3 simple tips have really made a difference with staying in our budget during the school year. Walmart has so many great back to school items from clothing to everything you need to save on your kids lunches!
Thanks for tips, I found some resuable snack bags last year and loved it. Definitely going to restock today
