In the new year, I always map out some goals I would like to accomplish for every area of my life. One of them is definitely my health. Last year, I made some changes and this year I am looking to make a few more. Here are 5 of them:
1. Water is my new drink of choice.
I don’t love water but, I’m drinking it 99% of the time. I feel better overall since I have been doing this. Our family rarely buys soda and only has juice occasionally so, it’s not a huge adjustment. However, when I go out to eat, ordering water is so hard. I rather have something special.
I’m trying to keep this up by garnishing my water to make it look prettier and taste better. Adding limes, lemons and oranges does wonders!
2. Getting more knowledge on my health & health care options.
UnitedHealthcare has a great site with 3 super simple games you can play to help you get more educated on the nuts and bolts of healthcare. I am trying to educate myself overall on these things and this is a simple and easy way to do that.
The games were fun & quick! This is a great way to make the most of your health benefits this year.
I would encourage you to check out UnitedHealthcare’s website and the interactive, educational games they offer and sign up! Each of the three interactive games has a $500 monthly prize and a $100 weekly prize!! Participants may enter daily for each of the three games and may earn additional entries for clicking the recommended articles after completing a quiz.
3. Eating more organic.
I used to think this always comes with a high price tag and that we couldn’t afford it but, the truth is there are great deals on organic items just like any other foods. We mainly have been focusing on organic meats and it has made such a difference in our health. The more I learn about the food industry, the more I make this a priority for my family.
4. Healthier snacks.
I am choosing healthier snacking and I’ve seen an increase in my energy level throughout the day. I am a “comfort eater” so this can be a challenge but, I have found some great “Go-To’s.” Some of my favorites are: popcorn, sweet potato chips, granola bars, dried mango, and trail mixes.
5. Getting more sleep.
Almost every night, I get a full 8 hours of sleep. Sometimes, if I’m catching up on work I push it a little but overall I’m focusing more on getting enough rest. I have this “bedtime”reminder on my iPhone that gives me an alert when I need to start heading to bed to get a full night’s sleep. Everything else can wait for tomorrow.
I hope you’ll make a list of things that you want to do differently to benefit your health this year. I am always looking for ways to be a better steward of this body God has given me while I’m here on earth. These are some ways I am doing that. My weight yo-yos so badly and it’s entirely from me going from drinking water all the time to starting to drink pop!
We are also going to try buying organic meat in bulk this year…I’m kind of excited!

WE have been trying to eat better as well. I wish I could get more sleep, but little man is cutting teeth and keeping me up late. This shall pass though.

I recently started setting a ‘Go to bed’ alarm on my phone, and it has made a big difference in making sure I get enough rest. To help you with drinking more water, you might want to try on of those water infusion bottles. They are awesome and you can experiment with different flavor combos.

What a great idea! Thanks!

I have been trying to get healthier this year too and finally making water a priority has changed so much! My body could feel the difference and now, if I forget to drink it my body lets me know! I think my body was so use to being dehydrated before and now that it’s had water it reacts when it doesn’t. So neat to see that the more we love our bodies the more responsive they are!

That’s such a good point I never thought about that because, I wasn’t drinking a ton before either.

Such great choices for getting healthier! I too am trying to drink more water and get to bed earlier. The water thing is going well… the sleep… well, not so much.

Hey, well one thing at a time is still success!

So many people laugh at me about it, but my bedtime is real and necessary. I feel the difference when I don’t sleep for a full 8 hours. It’s awful. I have been trying to be more diligent with drinking more water as well. I just want my skin to glow and be fabulous, lol.
jehava.brown@gmail.com
Well they can laugh at us together lol I totally feel the difference!

Girl! This is such a great post. It’s so important to take care of yourself– especially when you’ve got a family to look after! You’ve inspired me to add more water to my regimen, and more sleeping too. Sometimes it’s hard to shut myself off, but more often than not, things really can wait until tomorrow! Love it momma! xoxo
